A wealthy unincorporated seaside community and suburb of Jacksonville, FL, Ponte Vedra Beach is located in St. Johns County. It is part of Florida’s Jacksonville Beaches area and on the island nicknamed San Pablo Island. The site is known for being explored in the 16th century by European explorers but remaining sparsely populated through the late 19th century. It became known as Mineral City in 1914 due to the mining operations that started there not long after prospectors found a diverse array of minerals.
